Man jumps to death from Hyatt balcony in Orlando International Airport

A man jumped to his death from an inside hotel balcony in Orlando International Airport today.


The 69-year-old Alabama man leaped from a Hyatt Regency balcony in Terminal B of OIA at about 1 a.m., according to officials.
Transportation Security Administration agents found the body and blocked off the area for a time but there was no impact on airport operations, airport spokesman Rod Johnson said.
He didn't know which floor the man jumped from.

Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida in terms of passenger traffic, with more than 35 million travelers per year, No. 13 in the nation and 23rd in the world. Located in south Orlando, the airport is served by more than 50 airlines. With 13,297 acres, OIA is third largest airport in the nation in terms of size, five times larger than Miami International. It has four parallel runways, including two that stretch 12,000 feet and can accommodate the largest jets in the world. The Airfield can handle 140 takeoffs and landing per hour, with 90 arrival and departure gates. The airport is run by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, with government appointed members who control an annual budget of more than $330 million, and $2.5 billion in assets. With more than 100 retail shops and food and beverage outlets, the airport is a self-contained environment with full service banking, currency exchange, salon, post office. A 446-room Hyatt Regency Hotel is located inside the lobby, and features 50,000-square feet of meeting space for business travelers. Orlando International has 9,300 parking space in the terminal, and 10,700 satellite spaces.
